Network in Person — Last updated: March 31, 2026

Network in Person ("we", "our", "the app") helps professionals connect at conferences, meetups, coworking spaces, and events through speed networking, QR code scanning, and skill-based matching. Your privacy and safety are foundational to how the app is designed.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 LinkedIn Authentication

We use LinkedIn as our sole sign-in method. When you authenticate, we receive:

  • Your name, professional headline, and profile photo
  • Your email address
  • Your LinkedIn connection count (for verification — we do not access your connections list)
  • Your LinkedIn account age

We never post to your LinkedIn, access your messages, or view your connections' details. We require a minimum of 30 connections and an account older than 6 months to maintain a professional environment.

1.2 Profile Information You Provide

You may provide the following, all of which are optional beyond your name:

  • Title, company, industry, market, and role
  • Skills, interests, languages, and collaboration preferences
  • A bio, goals, and topics of interest
  • A profile photo (from your device or LinkedIn)
  • A booking URL (e.g. Calendly link)
  • Structured "Looking For" entries describing who you want to meet

1.3 Location Data

We access your location only while the app is in use (foreground only) to:

  • Show groups near you on the map
  • Pin new groups to your current location when you create one

We never track your location in the background. We do not store location history. The map shows group locations, not individual people's locations.

1.4 Calendar Data

If you choose to use the "Find Time" feature, we read your device calendar to identify free/busy time blocks for the next 7 days. Only start and end timestamps are extracted — no event titles, descriptions, attendees, or other details are ever read or transmitted. Busy blocks are uploaded to our server temporarily and automatically deleted after 24 hours.

1.5 Camera and QR Codes

The camera is used solely for:

  • Scanning QR codes to connect with other users
  • Taking or selecting profile photos

We do not record video, store camera data, or use the camera for any other purpose.

1.6 Group and Session Data

  • Which groups you join and your membership status
  • Rooms you join within a group
  • Speed dating session participation and round timing
  • Follow-up cards, tags, and notes you save about other users
  • Connection requests between users

2. How We Use Your Information

3. What We Share

Your profile information is shared only with members of groups you have explicitly joined using a group PIN code. You control exactly which sections are visible through per-section privacy toggles:

  • Professional info (title, company)
  • Skills, interests, and languages
  • Bio and what you're looking for

Your name is always visible to group members. All other sections can be set to "visible" or "hidden" before joining a group.

Mutual Connections

When two users mutually connect (both accept), the following is shared between them:

  • LinkedIn profile URL (if provided)
  • Email address (if provided)

This information is never shared without mutual consent from both parties.

We do not:

  • Sell your data to third parties
  • Share your data with advertisers
  • Share your location with other users
  • Retain your data after you leave a group (sessions auto-expire)
  • Read or store calendar event details (only timestamps)

4. Data Storage and Retention

4.1 Where Data is Stored

Profile data, group memberships, and connection records are stored on Supabase(hosted on AWS). Local preferences, follow-up cards, and session data are also cached on your device using AsyncStorage.

4.2 Session Expiry

Group sessions automatically expire after 24 hours. When a session expires or you leave a group, your information is removed from that group. Calendar busy blocks expire after 24 hours. QR connection records expire after 5 minutes.

4.3 Account Deletion

You can delete all your data at any time by:

  • Uninstalling the app (removes all local data)
  • Contacting us to request deletion of server-side data

5. Your Privacy Controls

  • Per-section visibility: Choose exactly which parts of your profile are visible to group members
  • PIN code required: No one can see your info without you entering a group code first
  • One-tap leave: Instantly remove yourself and all your info from a group
  • Auto-expire: Sessions expire after 24 hours automatically
  • No background tracking: Location is only accessed while the app is open
  • Mutual connection required: Contact details are only revealed when both parties accept
  • Calendar privacy: Only free/busy timestamps are used — never event details
  • Report and block: Report inappropriate behavior or block users at any time

6. Safety and Verification

To maintain a professional and safe environment:

  • All users must sign in with LinkedIn
  • We require a minimum of 30 LinkedIn connections
  • We require LinkedIn accounts older than 6 months
  • Users can report and block others at any time
  • During speed dating, participants are identified by numbers only — no personal information is revealed until both parties meet in person
  • Group admins can reset and manage speed dating sessions

7. Third-Party Services

The app integrates with the following third-party services:

  • LinkedIn: Authentication and professional verification.
  • Supabase: Database and file storage.
  • Apple Maps / Google Maps: Map display.

8. Children's Privacy

Network in Person is designed for professional adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 18. The LinkedIn verification requirement enforces this in practice. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 18, we will delete it immediately.

9. Security

We protect your data through:

  • LinkedIn OAuth 2.0 for secure authentication
  • Row-level security policies on all database tables
  • HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
  • Temporary sessions that auto-delete
  • No persistent location tracking or history
  • Calendar data that is never stored beyond 24 hours

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
